Preservation and Progress
Chamber of Commerce representatives
recently met with our new tourism manager
- Suzanna Doyle. The meeting was mainly
to pass on some chamber history and the
current projects we are working on. We
hope to keep the communication flow going
and work together to achieve some positive
outcomes for the business community.
Old Goal excursion
Members of the Chamber executive joined the Old Gaol group on a tour of Castlemaine and Bendigo Gaols. The excursion was an opportunity to see the developments completed by each town. The overwhelming consensus was how fortunate Beechworth is to have such an exceptional historic building in the heart of town in wonderful condition, making it all the more important to preserve and develop the site sympathetically.
Another festival run & done
Another great historic event held by the Old Cranks group showcasing our beautiful town and its relics. Keep up the good work! Festivals such as this event are an important part of our tourism fabric.
A splendid afternoon celebrating Mayday Hills 150th birthday was had enjoyed by many locals. A snapshot of life in the
sanatorium was presented by former employees and a tour of the grounds. A sad farewell to the Burke Museum Manager - Patrick Watt was also conducted in the evening of the event. He will be missed as a vital link to our heritage precinct and the Burke museum.
Results are in
Business survey results have been compiled with a result which indicates the majority of businesses want more promotion and recognition of the retail value in the economy of Beechworth. Little promotion of our retail streetscape is being done and is an area for significant improvement. The tourism focus is primarily cycling and adventure tourism, which is only part of the benefits of a visit to this region. We need to highlight how unique our retail is, with no common franchises and mass produced products, for a small rural area we have unrivalled boutique shopping. More detailed results will be available when the surveys are all completed and collated. Thankyou to businesses
that participated and took the time to complete the lengthy questionnaire.
